About the Author
Joel J. Lerner was a professor and the chairman of the business division at Sullivan County Community College. He presently is a member of the Board of Trustees of that institution. He received his B.S. from New York University and his M.S. and P.D. from Columbia University. He has coauthored the Schaum's Outlines of Principles of Accounting II, Intermediate Accounting, Bookkeeping and Accounting, Business Mathematics, and Introduction to Business and is the sole author of McGraw-Hill's Financial Planning for the Utterly Confused, now in its fifth edition.
James A. Cashin was Emeritus Professor of Accounting at Hofstra University, where he was formerly Chairman of the Accounting Department. He was a coauthor of several accounting books, including Schaum's Outline of Principles of Accounting II, Schaum's Outline of Cost Accounting, and he was editor in chief of the Handbook for Auditors. Professor Cashin was a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. He held a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. from New York University. Good companion for Accounting 101

This is a straightforward explaination of basic accounting concepts normally covered in Accounting 101.
This book covers:

2)Classifying Transactions (ledger and trial balances)

4)Adjusting and Closing entries
5)Merchandise (retail) accounting (COGS, inventory)

Each chapter has numerous questions and their answers for practice.
This is the first of two book series. This book covers the "meat" of accounting such as general ledger, AP, AR, closing, inventory, and financial statements.
The second book covers more peripheral topics such as Bonds, Equities, and Partnership Accounting etc.
Much of today's accounting is computerized and its transactional processes are hidden from most accountants. This book provides the processes of double entry accounting.

I am using this book to refresh the things I knew. It is a very useful textbook where accounting concepts are explained with details and real-world illustrations are shown.

Good book, lousy quality paper

The information is good. The writing is fine. The quantity of problems at chapter's end is quite sufficient to help you understand and can use the concepts taught. The only real problem is the paper. It is tissue thin. It is less durable than newspaper. I would not count on these books lasting and being used for reference for long. As far as its physical quality, this is NOT a textbook quality book, by any means. For a few cents more, Schaum's should supply a book with some decent paper
