THE OPAL by Michael SIEMSEN

I had enjoyed Mr. Siemsen's first book The Dig, so tremendously that I could hardly wait for the release of the sequel! I downloaded it as soon as it came out! Mr. Siemsen really knows how to grip your attention from the very first page. It is a clever mystery with an ingenious plot. Surprising and well thought out twists and turns. It is a fast pace and well researched book, sometimes gritty and brutal. Mr. Siemsen's originality makes him a standout author. I found the first 3/4 of the book exceptional. I loved Matt, felt tenderness for him and I was so happy for him when he was able to find a soulmate, but all of a sudden our hero's demeanor changed completely, gone is the likable hero. He becomes a jerk and so does his soulmate! It left me with a sour taste. I love the way this author write but I do hope he comes out of the dark side! I would still recommend reading this book and will definitely buy everything published by Mr. Siemsen

Another Great Novel From A Great Author

Michael Siemsen scores again with this new sequel to "The Dig". It continues the story of Matt Turner, a man who has the ability to see into the past through touching objects. He only sees the past of that object though, not anything he wants.
This book was a joy to read. I had been logging onto Amazon.com every day for a week now waiting for it to be released, and when I saw it up I finished it in just a few hours. I just hope Mr. Siemsen decides to continue the series (it would be a shame if he didn't).

Great Sequel

I really loved The Dig, and the ending to that first book teed the story up perfectly for a sequel. This sequel is good, but wasn't quite as good as the first book.
** MINOR SPOILER ALERT **: I don't want to give away any of the plot, but the story took a couple of unnecessarily weird turns and left the story fairly unresolved. This only really makes sense to me if this book is setting the scene for a third story in this series.
** END SPOILER **
All in all, this was a good read. I still really like Siemsen's writing. A couple of times I started to grumble to myself that the main story line was getting pretty farfetched, but then I reminded myself that book one had Matt Turner travelling millions of years back in time to experience the story of a pre-historic species of cave people. Since I had no problem accepting that story line, why couldn't I suspend my disbelief about the historic zinger in book two? Once I got over it, the story became fun and interesting again.
If you liked The Dig, you should definitely read The Opal and then keep your fingers crossed for a third book in the series.
