Thoughts on Arianna

I met this author several years ago at a public gathering. She struck me as an extraordinarily dynamic person. It is perhaps a little ironic that her most recent book involves sleeping. She obviously found that anything can be taken too far. This interview deals at length with the disatrous Iraq war. She is absolutely right about that and does not simply assert her position but explains why. A lot of people attacked her for being an opportunitist for leaving the Republican party for the Democrats . I think that was over Republican foreign policy. There can be no more important policy for any country than whether or not to go to War .
Ms. Huffington Is hardly the only republican who left the party on that issue. I knew the late Joseph Sobran who was fired by the National Review for opposing the Iraq war and questioning US support for every thing Israel does even if it inflames the entire Islamic world against the West. Sobran was one thousands of Conservatives and republicans who were appalled by the Bush foreign policy . When I found out how widespread this phenomonon was I knew that John Mcain would lose the predidential election because he seemed to promise more war in the middle east. This interview is interesting to read because it was given in 2006. One way to judge people is to see how their judgements can stand up to the test of time . By that standard Arianna stands up quite well. I saw her on television just the other day describing Donald Trump as sleep deprived. That judgement too probably will pass the test of time.
