About the Author

Rough One for me

This is another hard review for me...I rated it 3 stars because....well frankly, I borderline really disliked/HATED Gabriella. That is so hard for me. I rarely feel that negatively towards a heroine but she cannot be that absolutely, bloody idiotic. How in the hell did she NOT know Dorian is Dark? Crap, I knew that from the second we were introduced to him in the club.
Aside from that, the fact that she took pleasure from Dorian intentionally hurting her during sex (although tame compared to some scenes I've read), her missing ALL of the clues he gave her including his constantly going hot to cold (glaring to sultry looks), the fact he looks like all of the Dark people she dreamed off, her reactions to Jared with Aurora (like hello? The crap she did with Dorian, the fact she hid her relationship with him, and the BS about loving Jared, but blah, blah, blah...yet she cannot stomach him with Aurora or anyone...selfish much?), and her constant complaints about well everything (feeling mediocre, her adopted parents trying to protect her, her real parents expecting her to be light, the Light not helping her, etc.). So yes, I don't like the girl...I had a hard time reading in some cases because she just irritated the hell out of me...
I thought the book was pretty well written, and the sex scenes were a bit 50 shades of grey (can do with some but sometimes enough is enough), and the twist at the end...which I started to guess about 60% of the way made it interesting enough to continue reading...and that is because I was WAITING for the damned girl to get slapped upside the head with the truth about Dorian. Don't get me wrong...there is a part of me that likes him (don't fully trust him)...and wants him to truly feel what his best friend felt, but...um, I'm bothered by them as a whole...heck, for that matter, I stopped rooting for her to be with Jared because him I LIKE. I'd prefer he was with a girl who deserved him and I just don't think it is her.
So, I am uncertain on book 2...I just don't know if I am ready for more Gabriella...until I can decide that, I think I am taking a break and reading a different series/book. I do hope she grows up and at the end, the end of the story is truly awesome, but for now good luck to others who read this. The last time I gave a truly honest review, other readers were pretty offended. However, keep in mind, this is just my opinion...for all I know you will love her and that is your prerogative.

Are you kidding me??!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes the book was well written, and yes the premise was interesting. However, by the end of the book I HATED the main character. She started out strong, and I initially liked her spunk, originality, her take no crap attitude and her loyalty to her friends and family. Then in comes Dorian and sex and she becomes a total idiot. I mean really, how daft do you have to be to miss the blaring clues in front of you?! And these clues weren't vague they were obvious. Such as, Dorian's random comments that he knows who she is, and believes in magic. Granted he's not detailed but come on!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and the reason she becomes so daft is because of her attraction to Dorian and the sex. All she seems to be able to focus on is just that; it made it next to impossible for me to believe that her feelings were genuine. Oh, and this attraction should've made things even more obvious, since she read about how alluring folks like him can be. It was all spelled out. But it took her the entire book to figure it out, oh and get this, she didn't do it on her own. She had help there with the "clue" at the end. WTH!!! Did I read the same book other people read?! I gave it three stars for originality and potential. But, I don't think i'll be picking up the second one. I just can't bring myself to care for a character who is supposed to be strong willed but get so wrapped up around a single guy that she loses sight of whats really important. It's infuriating!!!!!!!!

Book to fall in love with

Gabriella grew up thinking she was just oridnary, nothing special, no special athletic talents, no amazing spark. She was adopted at birth and lived a very normal life until her 20th birthday. The day she turned 20 she discovered that the person she thought she was is not who she was born to be. Her world turned upside down she suddenly felt like everything she once thought she knew was in fact a lie.
She comes to find out that she is not entirely human - she holds within her special powers that the world has never seen and soon will have to chose to go into the Light and chance being killed or stay in the Dark forever. Shortly after finding out about her birth parents and the powers she holds within she meets Dorian. **Appalude** Dorian walks into her life like a whirlwind and takes her breath away. He is mysterious, sexy, wealthy, and only has eyes for her. She will feel things she has never felt before, see things she has never seen before and she will question everything she ever thought she knew after meeting him. She is hiding something, he is hiding something, will there strong desire for each other pull them together or will their hidden secrets end them for good? Will Gabriella choose the Light or be swallowed by the Dark? Its her decision to make but the wrong decision can wind up being her last.
S.L. Jennings does an amazing job with all the characters in this story, you can't help but fall in love with them. I loved Gabriella from the start, although, throughout the book I wanted to smack her a few times and tell her to open her eyes and actually see whats in front of her. Oh Dorian, what can I say about him. He is the defintion of your paranormal bad boy. Dark, mysterious, sexy as sin, wealthy, smooth talker, honest, and sometimes likes to give it rough *wink wink*, I couldn't get enough of Dorian (especially when he was naked). Morgan, Gabs best friend, she is easy to love. She is very loyal to Gabs, very outspoken, has no filter, fashion fowards, funny, and just plan bubbly to be around. Jared, Gabs best guy friend and the boy she has been in love with since 9th grade, he is very sweet, caring, your boy next door and is easy to love. So many characters in this book to fall in love with. Great story.. Defiantely different from what I am used to reading but I am glad I gave this a chance because I really enjoyed this story. I will be biting my fingernails until the 2nd book is released so I can finish Gabriella's story and find out where her decision leads her. Great read but a wonderful Author. You will not be disappointed with this book.
